CiBB – Centre for Innovative Biomedicine and Biotechnology, is a Research Center of excellence in the domains of Biomedicine and Biotechnology, which results from a consortium joining CNC — Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology and iCBR – Coimbra Institute for Clinical and Biomedical Research. In 2024, the Teaming projects MIA-Portugal: Multidisciplinary Institute of Ageing and GeneT – Gene Therapy Center of Excellence have integrated the CiBB multidisciplinary structure.

CIBIT – Coimbra Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Translational Research – is a leading institution in multimodal imaging and translational research. CIBIT represents the Medical Imaging Branch of EU funded EuroBioimaging Network. 

CINEICC – Center for Research in Neuropsychology and Cognitive and Behavioral Intervention – is a Research and Development (R&D) Unit of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences – University of Coimbra. CINEICC aims to study (neuro)psychological processes in health, psychopathology, and aging, develop interventions to promote well-being, validate assessment tools for the Portuguese population, and understand neural and cognitive processes.

CISUC – Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra – is a leading Portuguese research center in Computer Science and Information Technologies, recognized as excellent by the National Foundation for Science and Technology, with 280 researchers conducting innovative R&D, training young researchers, collaborating on national and international projects, and co-founding LASI, a key AI and Data Science laboratory in Portugal.

CHUC – Coimbra Hospital and University Centre – is one of the biggest Portuguese hospitals having a comprehensive research, teaching, and patient-centred care approach. CHUC’s main mission is to deliver high-quality clinical care in the context of pre and postgraduate training with a strong focus on research, scientific knowledge, and innovation.

CNC-UC – Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology – is a scientific institute at the University of Coimbra that fosters high-level biomedical and biotechnology research with societal impact, promotes multidisciplinary graduate training, and provides specialized services to healthcare institutions and the entrepreneurial community. CNC-UC is committed to fundamental research and to translating it into clinical and/or marketable applications.

FCTUC – Faculty of Science and Technology – is a prestigious institution founded during the Pombaline reform. FCTUC offers diverse education in fundamental sciences, engineering, and cross-disciplinary fields, using modern teaching methods. FFUC – Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Coimbra – is internationally recognized for excellence in teaching, research, and health sciences. Equipped with modern facilities and located on the Health Sciences Campus, it ensures students receive top-tier training for success in the evolving pharmaceutical market.

FMUC – Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra – is part of University of Coimbra since its foundation, in 1290 by King Dinis. FMUC is considered to be one of the most important schools of medicine in Portugal due to its vast research areas, PhD programs, integrated masters in Medicine and Dentistry, and non-integrated Masters, as well as a large number of postgraduate programs.

FPCEUC – Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences – is a teaching and research unit of the University of Coimbra, recognized for excellence in scientific knowledge production, quality training that supports career readiness and lifelong learning, community-oriented services, and fostering student success and social integration within the academic environment.

iCBR – Coimbra Institute for Clinical and Biomedical Research –  is a Multidisciplinary Research Unit from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra (FMUC). Research at iCBR aims to investigate molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of chronic diseases, to identify innovative therapeutic strategies and disease biomarkers, as well as to unveil and implement new approaches to promote the quality of life and wellness.

ICNAS – Institute for Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health – is an organic research unit of the UC with a multidisciplinary nature. It is an institute with a strong connection to basic and clinical research, collaborating with a vast network of national and international partners in the areas of medical imaging and translational research. ICNAS’ Research unit is CIBIT.

iiiUC – Institute of Interdisciplinary Research – is an institute that promotes interdisciplinary research and advanced training, fostering fertile crossroads between areas of knowledge and the aggregation of teams, to ensure the capacity for international affirmation of the UC’s scientific research, and collaboration in the implementation of the UC’s strategic decisions regarding R&D.

ISR – Institute of Systems and Robotics – is a private, non-profit research institution at the University of Coimbra with the global purpose of setting up a first-class multi-disciplinary research team able to carry out leading-edge research in several important areas of science and technology, with a special emphasis in systems and robotics. ISR has modern laboratories in which a large variety of state-of-the-art, electronic components, and advanced materials are used, and to support innovative work.

LIP – Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics – is the reference institution for experimental particle physics and associated technologies in Portugal. LIP was founded to exploit the unique opportunities created by the country’s accession to CERN, the European particle physics laboratory. LIP brought experimental particle physics in Portugal to a truly international ground and will continue leading this challenge.

MIA Portugal – Multidisciplinary Institute of Ageing – is the first Southern European research institute focused on the molecular and biological basis of ageing. MIA bridges top-level ageing research with clinical and geriatric care, fostering health and well-being for ageing populations while linking science, healthcare, social services, and business development.

Proaction Lab – Perception and Recognition of Objects and Actions Laboratory – is a laboratory of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra working on cutting-edge research within Cognitive Neuroscience and Psychology. The Proaction Lab focuses on Cognitive Neuroscience approaches to unravel the processes associated with the perception and recognition of objects and actions, as well as how knowledge and information are stored and organized in the brain.
